Health Professionals

You may be a doctor, obstetrician, sonographer, midwife, nurse, pediatrician, counsellor or funeral home director. In the course of your every day work, you may have come into contact with multiple birth families who have experienced or are soon to experience the death of one, more or all of their multiples.

While most people want to help those in need, this is one "problem" that can't be "fixed". The best thing that you can do to support these families is to ask them what they want and don't make assumptions. Offer the bereaved family information and options.

AMBA has a range of materials and support groups for bereaved multiple birth families. Please consider keeping several of our leaflets on hand for when the situation arises. Contact AMBA to obtain copies of the leaflet for parents called "Grieving Couples" and the leaflet for caring family and friends called "Helping the Grieving Mother".
