Reducing premature delivery in twins

The Australian Multiple Birth Association (AMBA) is collaborating with the Kolling Institute and the North Foundation in the pursuit of better outcomes for multiple birth children in relation to premature delivery. Despite the rate of multiple birth in Australia remaining steady at 1.4% of births for over a decade and with the rate of multiple birth from assisted reproductive technology declining significantly since 2005, there is an increasing trend towards planned preterm and early term birth in all twins.

Our Chairperson, Ashlee Tenberge discussed the impacts of premature delivery in the context of outcomes for multiple birth families with Professor Jonathan Morris AM, Women and Babies Research Director at the Kolling Institute, and NORTH Foundation CEO Gilbert Lorquet.

They talk about the increasing trend towards planned preterm and early term birth in all twins and the research the Kolling team are doing into optimising outcomes for twin pregnancies.
